An Indian cargo ship, MV Gautham, was rescued after it became stranded in the Arabian Sea due to a technical fault, according to reports from Islamabad.

The vessel was travelling from Oman to India when its engine failed, leaving it unable to move and drifting mid-sea. Crew members sent an emergency message to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai.

Following the alert, Indian authorities sought assistance from Pakistan. Pakistan’s Navy and Maritime Security Agency responded jointly and dispatched the ship PMSS Kashmir for the rescue operation.

Pakistani personnel provided food and drinking water to the exhausted crew, along with medical assistance. They also offered guidance and support to help address the vessel’s technical issues.

A total of seven crew members were on board—six Indians and one Indonesian—and all were reported to be safe. The assistance was described as being in line with international rules on saving lives at sea, despite ongoing India-Pakistan border tensions.
