Incident at Rayapuram celebration

Rayapuram MLA Vijay Thamu, elected on the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) ticket, has sparked controversy after cutting a cake with a sword during his birthday and election victory celebration in Chennai.

Attempt to stop the act

According to reports, the event was attended by party functionaries including policy outreach joint secretary Loyola Mani. When Vijay Thamu attempted to cut the cake with a sword, Loyola Mani tried to stop him, but the MLA went ahead and cut it before setting the sword aside.

Cake later served with a knife

After the sword-cutting, Vijay Thamu reportedly used a small knife to cut the cake and distribute it to those present.

Criticism and police inquiry

The incident has drawn criticism, including from within TVK, with many objecting to the display of weapons in public celebrations. Separately, a video showing unidentified persons performing stunts in an auto bearing the party flag has surfaced on social media, and police said they are inquiring into it.
