DMK leader M.K. Stalin has said his party would not create any disturbance for six months if actor-politician Vijay forms the government, according to an interview he gave to an English daily.
Stalin said the DMK does not want any constitutional complications and is also not in favour of another election being held soon. He added that the new government should implement its own manifesto while continuing schemes introduced by the DMK government.
He specifically cited the free breakfast scheme for government school students and the monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 for women, saying these should be continued. Stalin also remarked that fulfilling a promise of Rs 2,500 for women would be difficult, and suggested that at least Rs 1,000 should be provided.
Stalin claimed his government had fulfilled 90% of the promises made in the 2021 election manifesto, while noting that some commitments—such as stopping NEET—could not be achieved due to the Centre’s control. He also expressed doubt that Vijay’s party would be able to deliver on its promise of six free LPG cylinders per year for every ration-card holding family, though he said the DMK would be happy if it did so.
