Congress MP Manickam Tagore said voters in Tamil Nadu had cast their ballots with the intention that the DMK should not return to power. Speaking in Madurai, he described the Congress-DMK alliance as one formed only for the election.

Referring to the recently concluded Assembly election, Tagore said the results indicated that people voted to ensure the BJP does not gain a foothold in the state. He claimed the AIADMK, which allied with the BJP, was pushed to third place in Tirupparankundram.

Tagore said the state’s political soil is opposed to the BJP and the RSS. He also said it was painful that DMK leader M.K. Stalin lost, and that the Congress lost in Sriperumbudur, where Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated.

He noted that actor-politician Vijay won by standing against the BJP. Tagore further claimed that voters backed the DMK’s defeat and that 15 ministers lost, adding that while Congress was part of the alliance, it did not share power. He said the Congress-DMK alliance was created for the 2026 election and that the election is now over, while also stating that Tamil Nadu’s two Dravidian parties have been removed after many years.
