Meetings with Left leaders in Chennai

ThaVeKa joint general secretary Nirmal Kumar met leaders of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Chennai on Wednesday, seeking their support to form the government.

Letter handed over to CPI

Nirmal Kumar met CPI state secretary Veerappandian and personally handed over a letter requesting support. He said a similar request had already been sent earlier through email, and that the party was now following it up in person.

Talks with CPM, VCK and others

Speaking to reporters, he said the CPM and VCK would consult and convey their decision, and that ThaVeKa would also meet them directly to place its request. He added that the Indian Union Muslim League had also been approached for support, while ThaVeKa had not sought support from NDA alliance parties and had no plans to do so.

Governor’s invite and next steps

Nirmal Kumar said the Governor should, as per procedure, invite the party that has won the most seats to form the government, and claimed that people had voted for Vijay to become Chief Minister. He also said Vijay had asked not to be given security, following which the convoy was withdrawn, and added that the party would consider further steps if required.

CPM meeting

Later, Nirmal Kumar met CPM state secretary Shanmugam in person and sought the party’s support as well.
