VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said TVK leader Joseph Vijay had reached out to him seeking support, and insisted that the Tamil Nadu Governor should invite Vijay to form the government.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai after meeting DMK president M.K. Stalin, Thirumavalavan said he believes the BJP has been “handling” TVK from the beginning and is attempting to control Vijay through pressure. He added that the Governor also appeared to be acting in line with that approach.
Thirumavalavan said Vijay had conveyed a willingness to work with the Congress and Communist parties, and that the VCK would examine the pros and cons, political implications and future trends before taking a decision. He said he could not announce a decision in advance.
He argued that allowing Vijay to take oath and assume office without delay is a constitutional duty, and warned that failing to do so would further confuse Tamil Nadu politics. He also said his discussion with Stalin focused on election results and not personal matters.
Separately, the CPI(M) also urged that inviting Vijay to form the government is the Governor’s duty and established convention, noting that no party or alliance has secured a majority and that the leader of the single largest party is typically called upon and given time to prove majority on the floor of the House.
