TVKV members staged a protest outside the Raj Bhavan in Chennai on Wednesday, raising slogans and holding placards demanding that party leader Vijay be administered the oath of office.

According to the party, TVKV won 108 seats in the recently concluded Assembly election, while the Congress, which won five seats, has extended support. With this, TVKV claims it has the backing of 112 MLAs, though it still needs the support of six more MLAs to form a government.

In this backdrop, Vijay has met Tamil Nadu Governor Arlekkar twice in person, seeking an invitation to form the government. However, the Governor has reportedly stated that he would issue the invitation only after being shown letters of support from the backing MLAs, a stance that has upset TVKV members.

The protest led to a tense atmosphere in the area. Meanwhile, with social media discussions calling for demonstrations in support of Vijay, police security has been increased at Marina, reports said.
