Reports from Chennai say the high-level security cover earlier provided to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay has been withdrawn.
Following TVK’s reported victory in the Assembly election, Vijay had been receiving a security arrangement similar to what is provided to the Chief Minister, including special convoy protection.
According to the reports, when Vijay was set to leave from his Pattinapakkam office to his Neelankarai residence, the convoy vehicles had already moved away. He then reportedly departed alone in his own car without the usual escort, creating a stir within TVK circles.
The reports also cite an earlier visit by Vijay to Raj Bhavan, during which he travelled with Chief Minister-level convoy security. It is claimed questions were raised about providing such protection to someone who has not yet assumed office, and that this may have led to the withdrawal. The convoy security is expected to be restored after Vijay takes charge as Chief Minister, the reports add.
