New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has strongly criticised the Congress party’s decision to ally with actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu, calling it an “immoral” move.

Referring to Mahatma Gandhi’s 1925 message in his Gujarati journal Navjeevan, Aiyar said self-rule must be grounded in moral governance. He argued that by moving away from its earlier alliance with the DMK and joining hands with TVK, Congress had violated that principle.

Aiyar described the shift as opportunistic politics and questioned whether it reflected wisdom, good politics or ethical conduct. He also said the party appeared to have assumed that other allies would quit the DMK-led front after Congress exited, but none did.

According to him, the decision has left Congress in an uncertain position, likening the situation to a “hung Assembly” where the party is left “hanging”. He said he did not believe such politics would help Congress progress.
