Tiruchirappalli: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Christopher Tilak claimed actor Rajinikanth met and spoke with DMK president M.K. Stalin to “create a new scene” in the current political climate.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchirappalli, Christopher said the coming days would be crucial to watch what the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) would do, adding that a new government would assume office within the next 10 days. He argued that the votes secured by TVK and the DMK reflected a public intent to prevent the BJP from gaining a foothold in Tamil Nadu.
He said the Congress extended support to TVK with the same objective—ensuring the BJP does not enter the state. Referring to the previous Lok Sabha election, he noted that all 39 seats were won by the DMK alliance and said some were ignoring the role of alliance partners’ votes.
Christopher also questioned calls for Congress MLAs to resign, asking whether similar demands would be made of MPs as well. He said even Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin won with the support of alliance votes, and asked if he would resign.
He further said candidates in Vijay’s party did not spend heavily on elections like other parties, suggesting this would reduce pressure to recover expenses and would not encourage corruption. He also questioned how the DMK could form an alliance with the AIADMK, which he said is in a direct alliance with the BJP.
