New Delhi: The Election Commission has said its official website, ECI Net, faced a massive wave of cyber attacks during the recently concluded Assembly elections in five states—Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Puducherry and Assam.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that the portal played a major role in ensuring election processes were carried out smoothly and quickly. He added that the polls concluded peacefully without major incidents of violence.

According to the Commission, voter turnout across the states also rose to an unprecedented level during this election.

At the same time, the Commission reported that its technology team successfully handled and thwarted 6.8 million cyber attack attempts targeting ECI Net during the election period.

The Commission noted that the intensity of attacks was particularly high on the day of vote counting.
