Congress party members staged a protest in Mayiladuthurai on Thursday, expressing support for TVK leader Vijay and condemning the Governor for not inviting him to form a government.
The demonstration was held at Kittappa Angadi and was led by Congress district president Banu Sekar. Party functionaries participated and raised slogans against the Tamil Nadu Governor and the BJP.
After the protest, Banu Sekar and other Congress members went to a nearby tea shop with party flags. As they came out, a group of DMK members allegedly confronted them, questioned them for holding the protest, and snatched the flags.
The DMK group reportedly threw the flags onto the road and assaulted the Congress workers. The Congress members escaped by getting into vehicles, and the incident created tension in Mayiladuthurai.
