Chennai: A prediction in a Tamil almanac that opposition parties in Tamil Nadu would come together has gone viral online amid a fluid post-election political situation.
According to the report, actor-politician Vijay’s party has emerged as the single largest with 108 seats, but remains short of the 118 needed to form a majority government. The party is now exploring support from other parties to cross the threshold.
The Congress, with five MLAs, has announced conditional support after responding to Vijay’s call. Even with this, the numbers are still insufficient, and the party is said to be seeking backing from Left parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, while those parties have not yet made their stand clear.
In this backdrop, speculation has surfaced that the DMK and AIADMK could come together to form a government. The almanac cited—Arcot Seetharamayya Panchangam for the current year—claims opposition parties may line up as a coalition and that a coalition government would be formed, a claim now being widely discussed.
