A video purportedly showing Thanjavur TVK MLA Vijay Saravanan dancing with friends while holding a liquor bottle has resurfaced on social media.
In a statement, Saravanan condemned the circulation of the clip and said it was from a private event that took place around 10 years ago. He alleged that unidentified new WhatsApp numbers were used to send the video to certain social media influencers with the intent of spreading defamatory content.
Referring to the day election results were announced, he said the actual situation was well known to the media and the people of Thanjavur, and claimed the attempt to use an old video to belittle the public’s verdict reflected political frustration.
Saravanan said strict legal action would be taken against those spreading what he called fake news, as well as those who instigate defamation using new phone numbers, including through cybercrime channels. He urged the public not to believe such rumours.
