TVK deputy general secretary Nirmal Kumar met leaders of the Communist parties in Chennai on Wednesday, seeking their support to help form a government under party leader Vijay.
At offices in T. Nagar, he held talks with CPI state secretary Veerappandian and CPM state secretary Shanmugam. Nirmal Kumar urged them to convey a decision quickly, saying their backing was crucial for TVK to form the government.
The Communist leaders reportedly said they would convene their party’s higher-level committee and announce a decision soon. Reports also said Vijay spoke to them over Nirmal Kumar’s mobile phone to request support.
Speaking to reporters later, Nirmal Kumar said the Governor should, as per law, invite the single largest party to form the government, and claimed that most people in Tamil Nadu had voted for Vijay to become Chief Minister. He said TVK has sought support from VCK, the Communist parties and the Muslim League, and reiterated that allies would have a share in governance and power.
He added that TVK has neither invited parties in the National Democratic Alliance nor intends to do so. He also said Vijay had asked that police security not be used as it was causing inconvenience to the public, and warned that TVK would take the next course of action if the Governor does not act according to law.
