Police security at the government-allotted residence of Udhayanidhi in Chennai’s Abiramapuram, on Greenways Road, saw a sudden change following the recent Assembly election results.
The house, known as “Kurunji Illam”, had been under round-the-clock protection with 24 police personnel deployed across three shifts.
After the DMK-led alliance suffered defeat in the election, the police cover at the residence was withdrawn. Personnel posted there were permitted to take a day’s leave.
However, with reports that Vijay was unable to prove a majority and his swearing-in being postponed, and amid information that talks were taking place between the DMK and AIADMK on forming a government, the police personnel were called back around midnight.
The security deployment has since returned to its earlier pattern, with police resuming duty at the residence as usual.
