VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said his party would take a decision on extending support to TVK only after consulting the Communist parties and arriving at a common view.

Speaking to reporters at a protest in Chennai organised by the Communist parties and VCK against the hike in LPG cylinder prices, he said VCK would announce its stand after the party meeting scheduled for May 8. He added that since the Communist parties have two MLAs each, VCK would first learn the decision taken by their state committees before making its own announcement.

Thirumavalavan also said the contours of an AIADMK–DMK alliance were not yet clear, and that VCK would state its position only if such a formation takes shape. He noted that VCK had not met TVK office-bearers so far, and that communication had been limited to a WhatsApp letter and phone calls.

On the Governor’s approach, he said it was “shocking” and alleged it appeared to be a deliberate pressure tactic. Referring to reports that the Governor had sought proof of support from 118 MLAs and issued it in writing, he said such steps were not in line with democratic norms, and that TVK’s friendship with the Congress was being cited as a possible reason for the move.
