Thaveka leader Vijay is set to meet Tamil Nadu Governor Arlekar in Chennai on Thursday evening, marking his third meeting with the Governor in recent days.
Thaveka, which has won 108 seats and emerged as the single largest party, has been attempting to form the government. The Congress has extended support through its five MLAs, but the alliance has still fallen short of a clear majority.
Governor Arlekar had earlier said that an invitation to form the government can be issued only after receiving support letters from 118 MLAs. Following this, Thaveka held talks with Left parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
After multiple rounds of efforts, the two Left parties have decided to back Thaveka and have already submitted their support letters, taking the Thaveka-led front close to 116 seats. VCK is expected to announce its decision shortly, with expectations that it may follow the Left parties.
Vijay’s meeting, initially scheduled for 4.30 pm, has been rescheduled to 6 pm. He is expected to submit the support letters from allied parties and stake claim to form the government.
