The CPI(M) has alleged that DMK leader M.K. Stalin wanted the AIADMK to form the government and sought outside support from the Left parties. The claim was made by CPI(M) general secretary Baby in an interview.
According to Baby, after the Congress exited the DMK-led alliance without consulting Stalin, CPI(M) leaders chose not to take a similar step and instead decided to meet Stalin and hold discussions.
Baby said the party conveyed to Stalin that, in the interest of Tamil Nadu, it wished to support the TVK, which it described as having emerged as the single largest party, since both the DMK and AIADMK had been defeated. He claimed Stalin did not accept this proposal and insisted that the AIADMK should form the government.
He further alleged that Stalin asked the two Communist parties to extend outside support to an AIADMK administration. Baby said CPI(M) rejected the request, stating it could not support the AIADMK as it is part of the BJP-led alliance.
