Claims of a possible DMK move to help AIADMK return to power have triggered shock and anger among DMK functionaries and cadre, according to a report. The report alleges that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin explored the idea of supporting AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami to become Chief Minister.
The report further says Left party leaders were taken aback when they were allegedly approached for support. It claims they questioned how Palaniswami could be backed after campaigning strongly against him for aligning with the BJP, and that Stalin described such a shift as “political strategy” suited to circumstances.
According to the same account, Left leaders rejected the approach, saying they believed in respecting the people’s verdict even if it was not favourable to them. The report also alleges that pressure from Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin to prevent actor Vijay from becoming Chief Minister was a key factor behind the purported move.
The report says DMK cadre reacted strongly on learning of these developments. It adds that MP Kanimozhi intervened and argued that helping a party the DMK has opposed for decades would be unacceptable to both party workers and the people of Tamil Nadu.
It further claims that DMK functionaries and cadre have been calling Kanimozhi to thank her for opposing the plan.
