Chennai: Two Superintendents of Police (SPs) who were recently posted on special duty to the Tamil Nadu State Intelligence wing have been sent back to their earlier district postings.

According to the report, Ariyalur SP Visvesh Balasubramanian Sastri and Kallakurichi SP Aravind were assigned to Intelligence to handle work related to the swearing-in and other arrangements as a new government is set to take charge in the state. The orders were issued by Sandeep Rai Rathod, who was appointed as DGP by the Election Commission.

However, it is stated that the current Intelligence DGP, Balanagadevi, did not accept the two officers’ postings. She reportedly wrote to the Governor and the Chief Secretary, alleging that the appointments were made without consulting her and without Home Department approval.

Following this, both SPs were reverted to their respective districts. Vellore DIG Dharmarajan, who had also been appointed as a special duty officer for security at TVK leader Vijay’s residence, was removed from the special assignment; police sources said he is currently on leave instead of reporting back to Vellore.
