Left parties announce support
Left parties in Tamil Nadu have said TVK leader Vijay should speak in a stronger voice for the state’s rights in the coming years. They also announced support for TVK to form a government, describing the party as having emerged as a major force.
Official letter handed over
The decision was jointly announced to reporters by CPI state secretary Veerappandian and CPM state secretary Shanmugam. They said an official letter of support has been given.
On questions about DMK alliance
Responding to questions on how they could support TVK while being part of the DMK alliance, the leaders said DMK president M.K. Stalin had not stated anywhere that Vijay should not form a government. They added that they do not require DMK’s approval for their decision, stressing they are an independent party taking its own political stand.
“People’s verdict” and conditions
They said the new administration should be a welfare-oriented government and that their support reflects the people’s verdict in a democracy. They also said they do not want anyone to claim that left parties or the VCK blocked TVK’s chance to form a government.
Warning on state rights
The leaders said they would stand with Vijay and other democratic forces if he raises a strong voice for Tamil Nadu’s rights. If any steps threaten state rights, they said they would pressure Vijay, and if he crosses the line, they would protest.
