Hyderabad Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Sai Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, following a complaint alleging sexual harassment of a 17-year-old girl.
According to the report, the girl and Bhagirath were known to each other and had a friendly acquaintance. The girl’s mother approached the police in Hyderabad, alleging that her daughter was subjected to sexual harassment.
Based on the complaint, police booked Bhagirath under the POCSO Act. The development has triggered widespread attention and shock.
Meanwhile, a counter-complaint has been lodged on Bhagirath’s behalf at Karimnagar Police. In the complaint, he claimed that the girl’s parents pressured him to marry her and later demanded money, alleging that he paid Rs 50,000 out of fear but was subsequently threatened with a demand of Rs 5 crore.
Police have registered a case based on the counter-complaint as well, and investigations are under way.
