Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has congratulated Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay on taking charge as the state’s Chief Minister. In a statement, Stalin also welcomed the initial announcements signed by Vijay soon after assuming office.

Stalin cautioned the new Chief Minister against beginning his tenure by saying the government lacks funds. He said resources are available, and what is needed is the will to serve people and the administrative capability to implement welfare measures.

Referring to his own government’s tenure, Stalin said his administration implemented several public welfare schemes over five years while handling challenges such as COVID-19, floods and what he described as discrimination by the BJP-led Union government.

He also responded to Vijay’s allegation in his first address that the previous government left behind a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore and emptied the treasury. Stalin said Tamil Nadu’s debt level is within permitted limits and that the state’s financial position had been clearly explained in the February budget.

Stalin urged Vijay not to mislead or divert the people who voted for him and to focus on fulfilling only what is practically feasible. He said he expects Vijay to learn the nuances of delivering on promises and wished him well for continuing Tamil Nadu’s development journey.
