Former Chief Ministers M.K. Stalin and Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) did not attend Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony held today. Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) was also absent.

The ceremony, however, saw participation from a few functionaries from the DMK and the AIADMK. From the BJP, Nainar Nagenthran and Tamilisai took part.

During the election campaign, Vijay levelled a series of allegations against the DMK, and the party did not issue a response, according to the report. Vijay had projected the contest as being between the DMK and his party.

Stalin, in turn, had said the real contest was between Delhi and his side. After Vijay’s victory, Stalin did not directly congratulate him, but conveyed wishes to the new government without naming him.

In this backdrop, the absence of Stalin and former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi at the swearing-in, along with EPS and OPS, drew attention, even as leaders from their parties attended in a limited capacity.
