New orders on safety and narcotics

Newly sworn-in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Saturday signed fresh government orders aimed at strengthening women’s safety and curbing drug-related crime. The measures include forming a “Singappen” women’s special rapid action force and setting up dedicated anti-narcotics units in all major cities.

“I won’t make mistakes, and won’t allow them”

Addressing the public after taking charge, Vijay said he would not make mistakes and would not allow others to do so. He described himself as an ordinary person who understands hardship and said he would not make false promises, committing to do only what is feasible.

White paper on finances promised

Vijay said the new government had inherited a difficult financial situation, alleging that the state had been left with debt exceeding ₹10 lakh crore and an emptied treasury. He said the administration would assess the situation and release a white paper on the government’s financial position.

Transparency, law and order, and public money

The Chief Minister promised open and transparent governance, sought time to implement commitments in phases, and said women’s safety and law and order would be enforced strictly. He also said he would not touch public money even by a paisa and stressed that all citizens—friends and opponents alike—would be treated as his people, with focus on basic amenities and support for minorities.
