The first session of the 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly began in Chennai at 9.30 am on May 11. Acting Speaker Karuppaiya administered the oath of office to the newly elected MLAs.
Addressing the House, Karuppaiya welcomed those present and spoke about leadership qualities such as courage, generosity, knowledge and effort. He said these traits define a leader.
In his remarks, he praised Chief Minister Vijay, calling him a “three-letter mantra” spoken across the country and describing him as a tireless worker for the people of Tamil Nadu. He also said Vijay had faced and overcome many obstacles.
Karuppaiya thanked the people of Sholavandan for electing him as MLA, and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Vijay and the Governor for his appointment as Acting Speaker.
