AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Sunday rejected reports suggesting that the party is splitting, calling them “false news” in Chennai.

The remarks come in the backdrop of heightened internal differences within the AIADMK following the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results. Reports said some leaders, including C.V. Shanmugam and S.P. Velumani’s side, blamed certain decisions taken by EPS during the campaign for the party’s defeat.

According to the reports, MLAs aligned to the two sides arrived separately at the Assembly, reflecting the strain within the party.

During the current Assembly session, only 17 AIADMK MLAs reportedly submitted a letter to the temporary Speaker and the Assembly Secretary supporting EPS as the AIADMK legislature party leader, further drawing attention to the internal rift.

When reporters questioned EPS outside the Assembly about the developments and the talk of a split, he responded briefly that it was “false news” and moved on.
