Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Saturday signed a government order to form the ‘Lioness’ Special Task Force, aimed at strengthening women’s safety across the state.
Vijay took oath as Chief Minister at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Soon after, he signed three key government orders aligned with promises made in the party’s election manifesto.
Under the power-related order, domestic consumers who use up to 500 units in a two-month billing cycle will receive 200 units of electricity free for two months.
To build confidence among women and improve safety, the ‘Lioness’ unit will be staffed with adequate police personnel and equipped with modern facilities. The government said the force will enable swift action on complaints related to women’s safety.
In a parallel move to curb drug-related crimes, an anti-narcotics wing will be set up at 65 locations: 37 police stations—one in each district—and 28 police stations across police districts in nine city corporations, with strict enforcement planned.
