Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appealed to people across the country to refrain from buying gold for a year and to avoid foreign travel during the same period. He also urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption and use public transport.

Addressing a programme in Hyderabad via video conferencing, Modi said the prevailing situation in West Asia calls for careful use of imported petroleum products, limited to essential needs. He said such restraint would help conserve foreign exchange and reduce the adverse impact of war-related disruptions.

The Prime Minister highlighted India’s progress in the solar energy sector and said work has been accelerated under the petrol-ethanol blending initiative. He also referred to efforts to expand cooking gas coverage, promote piped gas distribution and encourage compressed natural gas (CNG) systems.

During the event, Modi laid foundation stones for development works worth about Rs 9,400 crore, including the four-laning of the national highway stretch from Gudebellur to Mahabubnagar on the Hyderabad–Panaji economic corridor and the proposed Zaheerabad industrial area in Sangareddy district.

He also inaugurated multiple sections of the Kazipet–Vijayawada rail project, a greenfield petroleum and oil terminal in Hyderabad, the Kazipet rail overbridge and the PM MITRA park in Warangal. Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy were among those present.
