The All India State Bank of India Employees Federation has announced a nationwide strike on May 25 and 26, pressing for a range of long-pending demands.
The federation warned that, due to consecutive holidays, disruption to SBI’s in-branch services could extend beyond four days. May 23 is the fourth Saturday and May 24 is a Sunday, and the union also flagged the possibility of further impact around Bakrid on May 27.
Among the key demands are filling vacancies, addressing issues in the Human Resource Management System (HRMS), and reducing what it described as sharply increased workload due to lack of recruitment in recent years. The federation also sought immediate appointment of subordinate staff and armed security guards.
It has opposed outsourcing for permanent roles and called for resolving employee grievances, reviewing promotion policies, and introducing a transfer policy for staff who joined after 2019. The federation said it has been raising these issues for years without a solution, affecting service quality and customers.
As part of its campaign, employees have been holding identity protests since May 5. The federation said demonstrations would be held at district offices during lunch breaks on May 11, petitions would be submitted to local MPs on May 13, and outreach would continue on social media. It also plans to submit petitions to the Finance Minister on May 19 and the Prime Minister on May 21, adding that while branch operations may be affected, digital banking services are expected to continue.
