Coimbatore: Congress MP Vishnu Prasad on Saturday said the people of Tamil Nadu have “broken” the long-running rule of Dravidian parties in the state.

Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, he said the new political change in Tamil Nadu would put the state on a brighter path. He also said Rahul Gandhi was the first to extend support when Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay faced a problem.

Vishnu Prasad alleged that the previous regime saw illegal mining and corruption, and said Chief Minister Vijay has assured that such practices will not continue and that action will be taken regardless of who is involved.

He further said the state has a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore and noted the Chief Minister’s statement that a white paper would be released on the issue.

Responding to criticism that the Congress had “betrayed” people, he claimed AIADMK and DMK—after alternating in power—were quick to come together when a third force emerged, and argued that Congress took its decisions keeping public welfare in mind.
