Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated India’s first textile park in Warangal, Telangana. The facility has been developed at a cost of Rs 1,695 crore.
Spread across about 1,327 acres, the park is expected to play a key role in boosting the country’s textile sector. Officials expect it to attract investments of more than Rs 6,000 crore.
The project is also projected to generate employment for around 24,400 people, according to the details shared at the event.
Speaking at the programme, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that when Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister and Modi was Gujarat Chief Minister, Modi built the “Gujarat model” over 10 years, and that a “Telangana model” would similarly be created.
Responding during his address, Modi said he was ready to give Telangana what the Centre had given Gujarat over the past decade, but added that doing so would, to his understanding, reduce what the state is currently receiving by half. The remark drew laughter from those on stage, including the Chief Minister. Later, at a public meeting in Hyderabad, Modi was seen playing a drum on stage.
