Chennai Chief Minister Vijay on Monday instructed officials to ensure that drinking water shortages do not arise during the summer season.
A review meeting was held at the Secretariat under the Chief Minister’s chairmanship to assess the functioning of the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department and the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, with a focus on uninterrupted drinking water distribution during summer.
The Chief Minister asked officials to remove bottlenecks in water supply across all districts, including the Greater Chennai Corporation, on a war-footing. He directed that immediate steps be taken to maintain steady distribution through measures such as water tankers, drilling new borewells and making alternative arrangements.
He also instructed all district collectors to review drinking water distribution every Monday and carry out continuous monitoring.
