Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran has issued a statement criticising Opposition leader Udhayanidhi for remarks he says insult Hindu beliefs and attempt to gain political mileage through religion.
Nainar alleged that Udhayanidhi’s comments in his first Assembly speech—calling for the eradication of “Sanatana”—show political immaturity and amount to repeated attacks on Hindus. He warned that such rhetoric could lead to political decline.
He further claimed that Udhayanidhi’s earlier public stance on “eradicating Sanatana” contributed to public anger and was a factor behind his fall from the post of Deputy Chief Minister to Opposition leader.
Urging a change in approach, Nainar said Udhayanidhi should cut out hatred towards any particular faith and instead uphold genuine religious harmony, recognising the importance of religious identities and beliefs for Hindus, Muslims and Christians alike.
He also said Tamil Nadu is watching to see how Chief Minister Vijay—elected by the people—will respond to what he described as hate propaganda voiced in the Assembly.
