Chennai: Congress leader and All India data analytics wing chief Praveen Chakravarthy has said Tamil Nadu’s treasury is “empty”, posting his remarks on X.
His comments come after Chief Minister Vijay, in his first address after taking charge, said the state has debt exceeding Rs 10 lakh crore and alleged that the treasury had been “wiped clean” by the previous administration.
Responding, former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said the state’s financial position had already been clearly presented in the February budget, and alleged that Vijay was attempting to mislead voters and divert attention.
Backing Vijay’s claim, Praveen wrote that for every Rs 100 of the state’s revenue, more than Rs 20 is spent on interest payments—higher than other major states. He added that mandatory expenses such as interest, salaries and pensions together take away Rs 40, concluding that the treasury is “empty.”
