VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Monday said he had received information that AIADMK, DMK and a few parties in their alliances had explored a move to make him the Chief Minister. Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he said the VCK did not accept the proposal.
He said the party’s political decisions were taken after assessing its strength, public sentiment and the prevailing situation, and not for “power or posts”. He described the current choices as major decisions that required a measured approach.
Thirumavalavan noted that DMK remained an ally of the VCK, pointing out that the party had won two seats while contesting as part of the alliance. He said suggestions from allies could not be dismissed outright and needed consideration.
On a question about reports claiming Congress had intervened to stop such a move, he said he did not know in what way Congress was involved. He reiterated that some people had approached the VCK, but the party did not agree.
Asked whether the VCK would be part of the TAVEK cabinet, he said party members were still pressing the issue. He added that Chief Minister Vijay would meet him on Monday as a courtesy, and he would not place any demands during the meeting.
