The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly convened on Monday for its second day of proceedings, during which TAVEK MLA J.C.D. Prabhakar assumed charge as Speaker after being elected unopposed. House Leader Sengottaiyan and Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi escorted the new Speaker to the Chair.

Ravi Shankar was also elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker. MLAs from various parties spoke in the House to congratulate the Speaker and Deputy Speaker and to place their expectations on record.

Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi said the political civility shown by Chief Minister Vijay—by meeting leaders to convey greetings—should continue inside the Assembly, adding that the opposition would function constructively by pointing out shortcomings and highlighting positives.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami urged that adequate time be allotted to all opposition parties and asked the Speaker to act impartially. DMDK general secretary Premalatha called for live telecast of all Assembly proceedings and sought equal opportunities for members to speak.

In other remarks, AMMK MLA Kamaraj reiterated support for the Vijay government, while PMK’s Sowmiya and MNMKK leader Jawahirullah stressed neutrality and fairness in the Speaker’s conduct. BJP’s Bojarajan said the state government should work in coordination with the Union government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The proceedings were streamed live on Dinamalar’s digital platforms, including YouTube.
