Chief Minister Vijay on Monday met leaders aligned with AIADMK’s C.V. Shanmugam, at a time when the party’s internal differences have intensified following its defeat in the Assembly elections.
According to the developments within the party, the Shanmugam–S.P. Velumani camp has been critical of Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), alleging his functioning contributed to the electoral setback. The dispute has also spilled into the legislature party leadership, with rival groups of MLAs submitting separate letters to the Speaker—one urging the appointment of S.P. Velumani and another backing EPS.
Vijay visited Shanmugam’s office in MRC Nagar, Chennai, where Shanmugam and Velumani received him. Several former ministers, including Natham Viswanathan, C. Vijayabaskar, Thangamani, Kamaraj, M.R. Vijayabaskar and Anbazhagan, were among those who welcomed the Chief Minister with bouquets.
During the meeting, Shanmugam and Velumani introduced supporting MLAs and key functionaries to the Chief Minister. The interaction is being viewed as significant as a confidence vote on the TVK government is scheduled to be held in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday.
