Chennai: Since Vijay assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the official social media handles of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) have seen a sharp rise in followers, reaching levels not seen earlier.
In previous years, the CMO’s pages largely functioned as noticeboards, posting photographs from tours, government functions and official meetings. They were mainly used by government departments and journalists for information, while engagement with young audiences remained limited.
After Vijay took charge, the CMO’s social media output has begun attracting a wider public. Routine announcements that earlier appeared as standard public relations updates are now being presented in youth-friendly formats such as modern digital cards and infographics.
As a result, follower counts on the state government’s official social media pages have been climbing rapidly. The CMO’s Instagram account, which had 4.47 lakh followers before Vijay became Chief Minister, has now increased to 18 lakh.
Follower numbers on the CMO’s Facebook page and posts on X have also continued to rise, according to the report.
