Former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has accused actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) of indulging in “dirty politics” after coming to power promising clean governance.
In a statement, Stalin said DMK MLAs boycotted the confidence vote and staged a walkout, reiterating his position that the DMK would not stand in the way of the TVK forming or continuing the government.
He added that alliance MLAs Premalatha, Jawahirullah, Thamimun Ansari and Nithiyanandam also walked out, and he thanked them for their support.
Stalin noted that other allies—CPI, CPM, Indian Union Muslim League and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi—voted in favour of the government during the confidence motion to ensure President’s Rule was not imposed in Tamil Nadu, and said the DMK respected their stand.
However, he alleged that the TVK’s actions over the past three days showed it was undermining public trust and attempting to “catch fish in a muddy pond” by taking advantage of a divided AIADMK and buying its MLAs. He said people were watching the Chief Minister’s conduct and what “return gift” would be offered to the AIADMK MLAs, adding that the DMK would remain firm in its ideology and function as a constructive opposition.
