The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday withdrew the order appointing astrologer Ricky Rathan Pandit Veluvel as Special Officer to the Chief Minister’s political division.

The appointment had triggered objections from multiple quarters, including parties that had said they would support the ruling Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). The issue also drew sustained attention across national and state media.

During the Assembly session, some members, including Premalatha, raised questions about the appointment. Chief Minister Vijay responded that he would reconsider the decision.

Soon after winning the confidence vote in the Assembly, CM Vijay issued directions to cancel the appointment order, making the withdrawal one of the first actions following the trust vote.

Ricky Rathan Pandit is described as having over four decades of experience in astrology and numerology. He had publicly predicted that TVK would form the government and had earlier claimed the party could win up to 140 seats in the 2026 Assembly election.
