Chennai: The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leadership has issued a warning to its office-bearers and cadres not to hold any celebrations that cause inconvenience to the public.

The caution comes after Kallakurichi district secretary Barani Balaji reportedly celebrated his birthday by bursting firecrackers on the Tirukoilur road, leading to heavy traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters. The incident drew criticism on social media, with users alleging that party functionaries were creating public disruption.

In a statement, TVK general secretary and minister Anand said Chief Minister Vijay, who has earned the people’s trust, has placed a major responsibility on the party. He instructed members not to put up banners or placards on roads or in crowded places, or engage in activities that obstruct traffic during birthdays and family functions.

The statement added that strict action would be taken against anyone whose celebrations or publicity materials cause public inconvenience.

Party members also claimed that similar road-blocking celebrations were held by the same district secretary when he received a party post in 2024 and again on his birthday in 2025, and that earlier statements were issued but no action was taken.
