Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay has accused the DMK of indulging in mockery and “outsider talk”, saying he would not be concerned by it after his government secured a decisive win in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
In a statement, Vijay said his government moved a confidence motion in the House and a debate followed, with members from various parties speaking for and against it. He said some legislators claimed neutrality and some staged a walkout.
According to the recorded vote, Vijay said 144 MLAs supported the motion, 22 opposed it, five remained neutral and 60 did not participate. He said the Speaker announced that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government had won the confidence motion.
Vijay thanked MLAs and party leaders who supported the government. He also said the Assembly proceedings were telecast live without hiding or suppressing any part of the debate.
Responding to opposition claims that his party lacked majority public support, Vijay cited election figures, stating TVK secured 34.92% vote share, while the DMK’s standalone vote share was 24.19%. He also compared vote totals, saying TVK polled 1,72,26,209 votes against DMK’s 1,19,29,144, and argued these were Election Commission figures.
