Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay on Tuesday expressed gratitude to those who backed his government in the Assembly confidence vote and to the people of Tamil Nadu who voted in the recent Assembly election.

A confidence motion was moved in the Assembly to test the ruling party’s majority. The motion received 144 votes in favour, 22 against, while five members recorded a neutral stand.

Following the voting, Speaker JCD Prabhakar announced that the government had won the confidence motion.

In a statement, Vijay said the confidence motion seeking renewed trust in the “people’s government” had been passed with support and votes. He thanked leaders of parties that supported the government and their MLAs, and also conveyed appreciation to his party’s legislators.

He added that it was the government’s duty to once again thank the people who placed their trust in it during the election, concluding with thanks to all the people of Tamil Nadu.
