Chennai: Hindu Tamil Party leader Ram Ravikumar has questioned whether Chief Minister Vijay supports Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi’s remarks in the Assembly that “Sanatana should be abolished.”
In a statement, Ravikumar said Vijay, who took oath promising equal governance for all, did not condemn the speech and instead appeared to nod and fold his hands. He alleged this gave the impression of approval and demanded that the Chief Minister clarify his position.
Ravikumar further claimed that Udhayanidhi’s comments reinforced his party’s view that certain political and religious “models” are aimed at undermining Hinduism. He also criticised what he described as dynastic control within the DMK leadership.
The statement additionally referred to Udhayanidhi’s past remarks about his religious identity and comments that the party leader said were hostile to Hindu beliefs, adding that such statements would not diminish the stature of Sanatana Dharma.
