Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai has alleged that the DMK and Thaveka have, in a short span, shown themselves to be “two sides of the same coin”.
In a statement, he referred to a recent speech in the Assembly by DMK MLA Udhayanidhi on “eradicating” Sanatana Hindu Dharma. He said that, within days, Thaveka MLA Mustafa expressed support for those views.
Calling it “unfortunate”, Annamalai claimed the episode revealed the extent of hostility he believes the parties hold towards Dharma. He argued that the DMK has forgotten where repeated attacks on Sanatana Hindu Dharma have led it, and said Thaveka would realise it soon.
He further said that if either party had the courage to stand firmly by its ideology, it should have openly declared during election campaigns that targeting Sanatana Hindu Dharma would be central to its politics. Instead, he alleged, they hid behind claims of secularism and “drama”.
Annamalai also said the parties revealed their “true intentions” only after securing votes from the very people whose faith they now, he claimed, insult with arrogance. He asserted that Sanatana Hindu Dharma is not a “punching bag” and expressed confidence that people would respond appropriately to such remarks.
