Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay has issued a sharp rebuttal to remarks made by Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, saying the DMK has been “rejected by 3.68 crore people” in the state.

In his statement, Vijay dismissed the DMK’s argument that his party did not secure majority support, calling it a repetitive claim. He said his party (TVK) secured 35% of the vote, while the DMK’s vote share stood at 24.19%, and alleged the DMK won some seats only with the combined votes of its alliance partners.

Responding to the DMK’s claim that 3.21 crore people rejected TVK, Vijay argued that by the same logic, the DMK was rejected by 3.68 crore people, adding that 76% of voters did not back the DMK. He also accused the DMK of burdening people with debt while portraying it as development borrowing.

Vijay said TVK’s secular stance was the reason it received support from parties including the Congress, VCK, CPI, CPM and the Muslim League. He further alleged that the DMK worked to prevent TVK from forming the government and claimed the party’s conduct had been exposed.

The Chief Minister also defended his decision to contest in two constituencies, rejected criticism about supporting MLAs, and accused the DMK of hypocrisy by citing its past political moves. He said his government would remain committed to secularism and social justice, and insisted that TVK would deliver results despite the DMK’s criticism.
