Chennai: The camp led by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has approached the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker, seeking action against AIADMK MLAs who voted in support of the TVK government during a confidence motion.
According to the complaint, 25 MLAs aligned with the S.P. Velumani side of the AIADMK voted in favour of the TVK government, allegedly in violation of party discipline and the whip.
Following this, AIADMK MP Inbathurai and former minister Thalavai Sundaram submitted a petition at the Speaker’s office, requesting proceedings against those who backed the government despite the party’s direction.
Speaking to reporters, they said EPS had already raised the issue in the Assembly and alleged that attempts were being made to lure members with promises for political gain. They claimed no response had been received from the Speaker so far.
They further argued that defying the whip during the vote was against Assembly voting rules and attracted provisions of the anti-defection law. As the Speaker was not available, they said the complaint was handed over to the Speaker’s secretary.
