Congress MP Karthi on Wednesday compared the AIADMK to an “extra sweet” placed on actor-politician Vijay’s leaf, arguing that the new administration need not depend on the party.
Speaking to reporters in Madurai, Karthi said AIADMK leaders were offering support on their own and not because Vijay had sought it. In his view, Vijay could govern for five years with the parties that initially backed him, without any necessity to bring AIADMK into the government.
Karthi also claimed that no one was fully prepared for elections yet, and said it would be difficult for any group to form a government while ignoring the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. He added that Vijay should remain confident and not worry about shifting claims of support or withdrawal.
Referring to post-election outreach, Karthi said it was normal for leaders to thank voters across constituencies, including places where they did not receive votes. He said he welcomed Vijay meeting various leaders, but reiterated that AIADMK need not be given a stake in governance, especially if it sets conditions.
Karthi further said people had voted for a “new government” by choosing a new party over the two Dravidian parties, and that public preference was for Vijay to govern without relying on leaders from those parties.
